2008 Season - Week 22

BUMSBowl XII

Chief beat Marcus 36-24 in BUMSBowl XIII after they both played Warner & Fitzgerald. The difference was in the kicking game and Chief’s choice of Santonio Holmes. It is Chief’s third victory in the BUMSBowl and was Marcus’ first defeat. They now both have 3-1 records in the final of our knockout competition and are locked in a 3-way tie with Daz as our best post-season performers. All-BUMS 2008 Three quarters of the BUMS voted for their favourite players and 58 different choices were made in all. 3 players stood out receiving significantly more votes than the second highest scorer at their position. Kurt Warner (15 votes) is the starting QB for the 3rd time (1999 & 2001) and makes his 4th appearance while his backup Peyton Manning achieved only 5 votes. It’s also Manning’s 4th appearance (2 starts, 2 as a backup). DeAngeleo Williams 1st appearance came as the de facto RB scoring 20 votes, twice as many as Adrian Peterson who makes his 2nd start. The backups are Brandon Jacobs (7 votes) and sharing 4th spot Brian Westbrook and Clinton Portis (5 each). After 4 consecutive starts (3 as the number 1 vote getter and 5 appearances on the run LaDainian Tomlinson scored just 3 votes leaving him 1 year behind Marvin Harrrison who owns the record for most consecutive appearances at 6 (2001-2006 – inc. 5 starts). Larry Fitzgerald dominated the Receiver voting (26) while his team mate Anquan Boldin (10) and Terrell Owens (7) are the other starters. Larry was a backup last year while Quan makes his first appearance. Terrell however extends his record with his 7th start and 9th overall appearance. Calvin Johnson (6), Greg Jennings (5) and Dallas Clark (4) are the backups. Mason Crosby (7) beat out Nate Kaeding (6) as kicker in his first appearance. And as in the Superbowl Mike Tomlin (8) beat Ken Whisenhunt (6) for Head Coach (all votes are attached). Superfood & Supergames As always a huge thanks to Cheryl for feeding the BUMS with a balanced diet that included Heinz (Pittsburgh) Baked Beans and (Arizona) Burgers plus Hot Dogs, Banoffi Pie and Chocolate Fudge Cake. Johnny had the most successful evening on the Supergames front creating the best team, predicting the half-time score spot on (thanks to the 100 yard interception return on the last play of the half) and also the quarterly leaders. The four Coopers all entered spending £20 and won absolutely nothing! BUMS on Seats The Superbowl may be over but there is one last gathering scheduled for next Monday at 6pm as we meet at BUMS HQ to see the AFC take on the NFC in the Pro-Bowl. Let me know if you can make it.
